Samuel Briseno Jimenez
Samuel Briseno Jimenez is a queer and trans, interdisciplinary performance artist who explores queer latinidad in relation to the liminal space that is the border. Sam is a descendant of immigrant land laborers who sprouted new life in the twin-border cities located near the Mexican-US border, Imperial County and Mexicali, Baja California. Sam’s work brings light to the taboo, encourages curiosity, and disrupts space (time+place) by exploring the queered space in-between binaries/borders. Sam incorporates materials, multimedia arts, and movement scores to transform space, generate conversations, and investigate how bodies move through space. Sam enhances any space they're in, through their capacity to transform, their flexibility to adapt, their groundedness and through their intentionality. Sam leads every movement with love.

“Response to my body being told if i just practice more, if i just refine my skills more, i could be a better dancer, but this is a fuck you, this is what my body can do now, and I’m celebrating that”

Liminal Space(s)
The border means so much more than a physical encasement, it represents a liminal space where bodies are deemed legal and illegal, citizens and resident aliens. Understanding that our beings exist within bodies that act as borders, and how we choose to participate in the gender binary affects how we move through the world, our access to resources, our liberties, our levels of peace, etc. Queer forms of self-expression, of love, or moving through the world are policed and bordered by heteronormative ideals, by patriarchal demands, and the societal regulation of bodies; the more we make work that celebrates us, invites liberation.

There's something so beautiful about being in the in-between
